The Presentation Evening

The Hermitage Hotel played host once again to the bowlers of Ibstock Bowls Club, who turned out in their best ‘bib and tucker’ to celebrate another immensely successful season both on an individual basis in the club’s internal competitions , and in a team capacity where the club won several trophies.

We were especially successful in the Coalville & District Over 60s league where the club scooped the Division 1 title as well as the runners up title in Division 2, meaning that both are teams will be competing in the top division next year. The club also scooped runners-up in both the Hinckley & District league 1 and the Coalville & District league 1.

Outside of our local leagues, John Saunderson and  Wayne Bott won the Over 55 pairs at Skegness, taking home two unique mementos in the process! John also stepped in to play with Joe Mellon in the finals of a new national comp, ‘The Zero Bowls’ competition – the club having qualified in the regional finals held at Hinckley BC.

Mind you there were other successes in the year that may not have won any trophies but deserve recognition none the same. We entered two new teams into leagues in the year, that were manned by relatively inexperienced bowlers, who grew in stature as the season progressed. This will stand the club in good stealth for the future.

The other successes that deserves recognition are the success of the bar, that has provided not only much needed revenue for the club but allowed us to offer ‘hospitality’ to our visitors through an after match drink, which has been missing for a few seasons now. Finally, the amount of work that the members have carried out improving our facilities, such as the replacement of various doors, as well as making the green safer, through the replacement of the bordering slabs, possible through the kindness of the Greene King grant. All these achievements deserve celebration.

Anyway, back to the evening itself which was in itself a great success. The food, as always, was delicious, good value and served up to the high level of service we have come to expect.

Finally for the individuals who like a bit of trivia, ‘Why do we refer to ‘Bib and Tucker’? Well the ‘Bib’ refers to a frilly bit on the front of a mans dress shirt, whereas the ‘Tucker’ refers to a lace covering that covers a ladies neck and shoulders (Should they chose to bare them!)
