A Bar extension or two!

Within 24 hours of the Clubs AGM finishing, where we shared our plans to extend the bar/kitchen area, the tools needed to carve out an extension were in action.

The plan is to build a wall across the men’s changing room, in a line with the changing room door joining the back wall, thereby sectioning off  a portion of the changing room for use as part of the bar or kitchen.

In this way it will be possible to create a separate kitchen area, kitted out with kitchen units and dishwashing facilities (should the Parish Council chose to gift us redundant equipment from the Welfare building) and a separate bar area where we will be able to serve and securely store drinks for serving, without the need to transfer said drinks back and forwards between the club house and the ladies changing room.

Two plans showing ‘Before’ and ‘After’ are shown below, although plans need to remain flexible as any ‘practical challenges’ are met!

A bi-product of this plan will be that it will be possible to mount a new notice board on the outside of the building, covering over the now redundant window, which has been sorely needed for some time. Also, in the spirit of ‘whilst we have the bonnet up’, Tom is also taking the opportunity to install LED lighting in the club house, so that we can lay claim to any ‘green credentials’!

At the time of writing this article work is being undertaken at a frenetic rate, and it is probably fair to say that it has reached the peak where the maximum disruption can be seen, as demonstrated by the series of pictures below. However rest assured, we hope to have everything back in working order before the new season starts.

Now, you may have noticed that the headline for this article mentions ‘A Bar extension (or two)’. This is because the club will be applying to North West Leicestershire District Council to renew our bar license, but extended to included license to serve alcohol on the patio outside the clubhouse – an essential extension when you consider the temperatures that get reached inside the club house in the height of summer.

Statutory notices will be appearing in the Ibstock Life magazine, as well as on the gate to the green, notifying the public with our intentions so that the bar is available  to run from the first day of the season.
