Big Bowls Weekend

Ibstock Open Day Sunday 30th May

After weeks of wet and miserable weather, our Open Day dawned bright and beautiful – and more importantly warm! Our green was set up with a number of fun activities, all set at half the length of a rink so as to encourage newcomers to the sport – both adults and children.

For those who have bowled before or those newcomers who felt encouraged to graduate to a harder challenge, two full length rinks were set out.

Business was especially business during the morning and we were able to demonstrate that bowls is a sport for all ages. A number of individuals have expressed an interest to return to explore our sport further.

Many thanks to all who helped on the day, and to the Bowls Development Association, who provided a workshop ahead of the day, to open our minds to ‘fun events’ that can be used to encourage newcomers to the sport.

Further pictures of the event can be found in the Gallery section of this website or through the Ibstock Bowling Facebook page.

Fixtures for the 2021 season

Whilst we have been given the ‘go ahead’ to restart our bowling for the 2021 season, under specified restrictions and guidelines, the precise detail of fixtures for each league and indeed our friendly fixtures remains to be clarified. The situation as at 18th April is as follows:;

The Hinckley Triples League (Monday evening) will commence games from Monday 10th May (See Fixtures page for full details). There are also some changes in format i.e. Matches will be 3 rinks, with pairs on each rink (i.e. teams will consist of 6 players and NOT 9 players), 15 ends maximum, no trial ends (but only 1 shot on the first two ends). The rules will be reviewed after government announcements on 21st June.

The Coalville and District Men's Over 60sTriples League (Tuesday afternoon) have made the decision to delay the start of the season to Tuesday 29th June and , then. teams will only play each other once (either at home or away). The exact list of teams is still being worked on and a fixture list will be produced as soon as possible.

The Coalville and District Triples League (Thursday evening) has now been confirmed and can be viewed by clicking on the "Fixtures 2021" button on the menu bar above.

As far as Friendlies are concerned, the situation is still being worked on as far as the whole season is concerned. The earliest date that the first friendly will take place is Saturday 15th May against Blaby (Away). Unfortunately, Thringstone (Home, 24th April ) and Shepshed (Home & Away, 1st May, 8th May) are not in a position to fulfill these friendlies. HOWEVER, we are trying to organise some internal matches on these dates. If you are interested in playing on any of these Saturdays then please let Brian Curtis know.
